Since ancient times, the Chouyou Festival (also known as the Chrysanthemum Festival) has been celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, when chrysanthemum wine and cotton chrysanthemum coverings used to pray for a long life. Chrysanthemums are used as a motif in many patterns as a good omen warding off evil spirits.
